I was exposed to porn at around 8 or 9 years old and I have to say, it left a considersble impact on me and it was very unhealthy for my mind. You become mesmorized and addicted at that age. It really makes you look at women in the wrong way and it gets worse as you feed into it, just like it does with any addiction. It's a shame I've only completely stopped watching it now and I'm 25. Porn needs to be? boycotted. It might be very difficult, but if I can do it, anyone can.

Hello. I find that pornography is a lucrative business that is devastating to people, especially women, who fall into the hands of unscrupulous people.
It's so hard for me to see a beautiful woman subjected to such abuse, a woman who is possibly drugged, drunk or just suffering I cry for them to find out of this nightmare.
May want to know that here in Chile, there are plenty of illegally copied pornographic films and I am sorry that this vile business extend their networks to other countries.
But there are groups like you and a lot of sensible people who are against sexual violence and that makes me happy.

Porn is an evil thing. It will grab you and will refuse to let go. I first saw it when I was 11, then my curiosity grew. Now that I am 17, I cant live a day without it. Every hour is a battle to resist the urge to look at it. It is hard for me to be with friends and be with girls. I can't even look at a woman anymore without thinking awful thoughts. I have tried to find a hobby, but my will power will fade. I have taken up running, and it has become very successful. Still, the desire finds a way.

My best friend asked to use my computer, and since I didn't delete my history, she found out about what I did. She felt I didn't respect women and said she didn't know me anymore. When I pass by her at school, she looks at me, and I see in her eyes a voice that says, "Why are you doing this, I don't know you anymore". Once she caught me staring at her vulgarly, but as the good friend she is, she forgave me. Now she thinks I'm a low-life. She was my soul mate. No other girl made me feel the way she did, and I've known her longer than any other friend. I loved her.

And for those of you who say porn isn't evil, tell me this: Why is it that it has hurt marriages, plunged many in the grip of addiction, degraded desperate people, and why is it many of you cringe at the thought of not having it? Isn't it that evil destroys the goodness in your heart? When was the last time you looked at a girl and didn't think about dirty thoughts?

I have always found porn so disturbing, even at 14 it was the peek when everyone got addicted. It broke my heart to find out my boyfriend couldn't understand why I hate it so much... he later admitted he lied, he is an addict. This website clears everything up, but for some reason some people are heartless enough to dismiss it.

I hated the people into the porn business but now I understand what they went through, porn causes so many problems... I can not believe how barely anyone I know has realized these reasons why it is so disgusting.

Please take note of the following commenting guidelines. Comments that do not follow these guidelines will likely be deleted.

1. Please limit yourself to ONE comment per person. (Multiple usernames are not allowed.) If you have more to say than one comment then we recommend that you start your own blog or website. There are plenty of free options available. (Ie. Blogger.com or Wordpress.com)

2. Please do not use this commenting space to discuss porn issues with other commenters. Please just share your own thoughts about the harms of pornography. If you would like to discuss pornography issues with others, please see the message boards/forums section of the footer of this page and visit those sites intended for that use.

3. If you think something specific should be done about the harms of pornography, please realize that active anti-pornography activists are already very busy doing what they can, and could use as much help as possible. So rather than criticizing others for not doing more than they already are, or demanding that they do more, please feel free to help out the cause by just doing what you think needs to be done YOURSELF.

4. Please keep your comments respectful of others. Comments that contain insults directed towards this organization or any other commenters, activists or organizations, etc. will be deleted.

Thank you for abiding by these helpful guidelines. Your cooperation is appreciated! :-) (And please note that if you do not like these guidelines, you're more than welcome to start your own website where you can set your own commenting guidelines. Thanks!)

ALL men are porn addicts,no matter how often they watch porn or whatever way they get it,and I do belive that there is a small % of women who are addicts,its the men who wants their GFs to do porn/sex acts,like anal and other simularity.
Only when youre brain realise that porn is a real serious problem,only then,any sane person will want help,but saying it and doing it,are too different steps.
Kat on January 21, 2011 at 9:16 PM said:

After reading a lot on your site, I've come to the conclusion that I already suspected. I think my ex-boyfriend was very into porn, hardcore porn. I can't go as far as to say he was an addict, but I think he watched enough of it that he became jaded in regards to sex. He often wanted to do "facials", to put his hands around my neck, and often, if he was too rough and I would begin crying, he did not stop. I too became jaded into thinking this was ok, that he was just very horny and unable to stop having sex once he started. I thought this was ok and "normal." I know now that it's not.

There were times that if I didn't feel like having sex, he would pretty much talk me into it somehow, or force me sometimes if alcohol was involved. He is a very educated and intelligent person, so I was driven to a state of denial and believed that all of this was ok in a sense even though in the back of my head I knew it wasn't.

I found porn clips on his computer sometimes and I know that he watched it, but I suspect it was more often than I liked to believe. Even his mother said she found some on the family computer once after he'd visited for the holidays. She described it as "bad porn", so I suspect it was violent or degrading. For years our sex life was simply whatever was pleasing to him. I never had an orgasm and it didn't matter to him and honestly, not to me either as I just wanted to get it over with.

After looking on your site, I've realized that, almost without a doubt, porn was influencing this in some ways. It wasn't always this way, but when I began finding things on his computer was around the time this sort of sexual behavior began.

I'd like to thank and support you for educating people on the harms this can cause in many aspects of life, including intimate relationships. I look back and wish I'd been more aware of what was causing him to act this way sexually and why, and that it was not normal in any way. We're no longer together, but now I know I can look for these things in the future.

I've been a porn addict since I was 15 when I found a magazine on a train. I've struggled with this for so long, it's against my religious beliefs but it has plagued me on and off for twenty five years.

This site has horrified me and crystalised my long held desire to stop using porn for good. I've always known it is wrong but I was too weak to give up. The horrible truth of this industry has opened my eyes and provided the motivation for me to finally stop. I can see now how it is all a lie, the women hate it and are exploited. Us men are conned and exploited too, sad victims of our natural urges turned in perversion by this disgusting business.

I learned that Comcast makes over a billion dollars a year with porn, and then started researching sites such as this. I called my local Comcast business office to find out what their profit is from porn and met with a very huffy "we have many cable channels" and we do not limit our customers choice. I already cut out cable, have basic TV, but even that $17/month irritates me to support Comcast's porn empire.

I had been since cowed as a liberal to even question pornography. It is considered Free Speech! If Comcast cannot abide by the law and prevent hardcore porn from getting viewed by juveniles, why can we not tax the bejeezus out of it and require the industry to be better regulated?

My foster daughter was trafficked at age 16. I'm aware now how porn drives demand and much porn is filmed juvenile rape (there is no such thing as juvenile prostitution). My foster daughter was labeled "incorrigible" and put in group home for hard core far away from our home. That's when she was trafficked.

There must be so many porn and pedophilic people in our juvenile justice system?

Why can't we tax porn? Why can't we put more money from that tax into enforcement of existing laws and rescuing children from prostitution? Why can't we use that tax to ensure we have capacity to take down the 30,000 child porn sites on the web every day?

A state legislator here tried to have a porn tax bill a couple of years back and there were no takers. Why is porn Free Speech but my objections are met with "wingnut" and "prude" accusations? I think it is only logical....who agrees?

First, let me say that as a spiritual teacher I deal with this issue more than any other. It causes the people who use porn to feel like losers and the people depicted in porn to feel the same.
The first thing I say to people who come to me for help is that sex is an act of creation. Yes, it creates things, children, love, homes and peace but if used as a weapon it detroys these same things. A young man will come to me and say "I'm gettin screwed" I then remind him of his last porn session and the thoughts he maturbated too. They usually involve sadistic and domineering words and thoughts. Well, in time this energy comes back to its originator, him and pretty soon he is getting f- in the a- and he doesn't like it. I always remind him of this, and remind him of the old adage, "treat others as you would like to be treated."
Originaly,sex was created as an act of surrender. When a woman has sex she is opeing her legs to death. For most of human history at least 1 out of every 13 pregnancies ended in the death of the mother. She surrenders her body, yet he must surrender his heart, the thing most men hold dear. Why are acts of surrender needed? To build trust and to forge lasting relationships. It bonds us together. This happens less and less as porn makes women only good for one thing and love is not it!
Sex is also an act of communication a language, an energy exchanged. When a woman is raped the rapist puts in his choas and confusion and draws out the victim's light and life energy. During periods of great stress we pour out life force energy and the rapist feeds off this. This is why the victim is often percieved as dirty and the rapist as a great guy. He has become a wolf in sheeps clothing. The same with porn.
I would like to leave you with a qoute by Lord Krishna who is the hindu version of Christ, he said 5000 years ago "When you pollute your women you pollute your world." Until people are no longer polluted in this way the enviromentalists and the world have no hope. WE must begin in our heart and inside our desires if we ever want to change the posioning of our world. We must stop posioning each other.

What have you created?

It makes me sick when I think of all the people who don't know that their partner or ex-partner has put their private home-made videos up onto porn sites for thousands of strangers to see. That is so wrong and abusive. It's violating. I hate porn.

P.S. If anyone wants to read my story about how porn harmed me and my relationships, just see the harm stories page on this website. Thanks.

Emotions and desires are essential, but submitting to them is not. Watching porn wastes our time and energy, it distracts us from our life and goals.

What we need to know is that we are all human beings and are mostly similar to each other. What matters the most is our actions. Watching porn is a DETRIMENTAL ACTION, and if we choose to believe that our actions have consequences (as they truly have), we surely can avoid DOING EVIL ACTIONS.

Our lives is at our own hands. (-:

It is lovely to see so many men commenting on how horrible porn is- I thought I was lost in a world of perverts who thought it was the norm to treat women this way. I just wish I knew men such as these in my own life

Hey everyone. I've been working in an erotic store for about three years now and I must admit it is simply disgusting to see what kind of pornos men pick. The oldest men pick the teen movies, the younger the female performers the better, and the more brutal the sex acts the better. We have DVDs about men sewing up women's vaginas and everything else you can imagine.

Working in this place has really made my image of men worse. Every second DVD customer wants us to throw away the DVD cover. Why? Because he has to hide what he is watching from his wife, girlfriend, or whoever. Sometimes we have customers asking for help to pick a nice sex toy to surprise their wife, and as soon as the customer steps up to the register he asks screwed up questions like: "Where is there a whorehouse or a strip club?" Or he even changes his mind on surprising his wife and ends up buying some DVD with men peeing on women.

We have porn addicted customers calling us all stirred up because they're waiting for a new DVD that was supposed to come out. These people spend hundreds of euros on some stupid DVDs! They collect this stuff. This is sick! One of them lost his wife and has a lot of debt because of this!

I feel like throwing up just thinking of men liking lesbians, men watching porn, or men going to strip clubs or whatever.

All in all these things make me go crazy and this "sex society" that is made for men pisses me off big time. I cannot even go to a damn regular club without being forced to see female strippers hopping around in front of my boyfriend's nose, and everyone always expects me to accept it: "Men are like this," "It's in their genes," "You have to accept it," Blah, blah, blah... Get out of my face with this!

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality

DESCRIPTION

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality takes an unflinching look at today’s porn industry: the stories woven into the images, the impact on our culture, the effects on us as men and women, the business machine that creates and markets porn, and the growing legitimacy of porn in mainstream media. Above all, PORNLAND examines the way porn shapes and limits sexual imaginations and behaviors.

Although we are surrounded by pornographic images, many people are not aware of just how cruel and violent the industry is today. PORNLAND shows how today’s porn is strikingly different from yesterday’s Playboy and Penthouse magazines — how competition in the industry and consumer desensitization have pushed porn toward hard core extremes. And, with the advent of the internet and other digital technologies, users don’t have to wander far to access porn; todaythe average age of first viewing is about 11 for boys, and studies reveal that young men, who consume more porn than ever before, have difficulty forming healthy relationships.

PORNLAND also looks at how our porn culture affects the way women and girls think about their bodies, their sexuality and their relationships. PORNLAND: How Porn has Hijacked our Sexuality argues that rather than sexually liberating or empowering us, porn offers us a plasticized, formulaic, generic version of sex that is boring, lacking in creativity and disconnected from emotion and intimacy.

Shared Hope International specifically focuses on fighting the demand for commercial sexual exploitaiton, including addressing pornography as a very significant demand factor for sex trafficking.

Please see their excellent report on this issue:

Pornography: Creating Demand for International Sex Trafficking

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pornography is a marketing device for sex trafficking: It normalizes degradation and violence as acceptable and even inevitable parts of sex, and uses the bodies of real women and children as objects. The difference between pornography and erotica is clear in the roots of the words themselves -- porne means females slaves, eros means love -- so pornography, like rape, is about violence and domination, not sex. Millions of lives depend on our ability to separate pornography from erotica, and to disentangle violence from sexuality."
Gloria Steinem, 2006
For information about Gloria Steinem's important work of fighting against the harms of pornography, sex trafficking and other forms of sexual exploitation and abuse, including videos and an audio interview, please see our page on Gloria Steinem. Click here.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. PLEASE DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO.
Please remember that it is not up to AntiPornography.org, the other organizations listed on this page, the government, or "someone else" to do the entire job of fighting against the devastating harms of pornography, prostitution, trafficking, and other forms of sexual exploitation or abuse. It is an enormous job and the responsibility lies with each and every one of us to do our part as part of the bigger team of those who are choosing to be part of the solution of creating a more just and humane world for everyone, rather than be part of the problem.
So thank you in advance for whatever you are able to contribute to the cause, whether in the form of a tax-deductible donation or your actions. What you do does matter, so for the sake of all those across the world who are being exploited and abused, and for the sake of the future of humanity, please do what you can to create a more compassionate and safer society for all.
Thank you for whatever you are able to give or do to help create a better world for everyone, especially for women, children and future generations.
 YOUR SUPPORTIVE ACTIONS & YOUR DONATIONS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
THEY CAN AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
