I have considered donating but the site seems to be about feminism.its all the fault of men you seem to say.we need to put the girls in charge.also more laws,rules,and regs will fix it.look at the culture we are in.tv is just as bad as porn.i watched f troop & gilligans island when I was young. that was a good start for porn.if it was about anti-porn I might help but this seems like the old story of girls against boys

Hi Jessica, thank you for sharing your incredible story! You were a huge star in that world but you awoke and realized that you could teach and warn future generations of young women looking to make it in this economically unfair society we live in. Spirituality and entrepreneurship are the way! dtwilkerson@gmail.com.

I'm just really happy that you shared your story. It's an uphill battle for a lot of guys to talk about the problem, let alone do something about it. It really helps to see a womans perspective on this issue. Thank you.

I am really glad you got out of the industry. I find it somewhat strange that you were at one time a "favorite" model of mine. I see it as something as a message from the universe that my feelings were right. The feeling you might get when you start to suspect that it's not just fantasy. When you start to get glimpses of real pain, maybe deep unhappiness. I'm not an asshole who hates women. I got exposed to porn at about age 7 and had constant access to it. I was an intelligent, sensitive, and shy kid who never had a chance to find sex for myself, instead I learned about it in the worst way. My sensitivity extended into my adulthood along with my porn addiction. What started bothering me more and more was that I couldn't convince myself that the pain I saw in the actors was not real. I knew in my heart it wasn't. That's a real problem for an addict, but it's also a real problem for a sensitive human being. I reached a point where I couldn't watch your work anymore, because I could see the harmful effects. I remember being very angry because I felt like the industry had harmed you. It really bothered me because you were my favorite. I never really got into the hardcore, just the stills. But what did I expect? Did I think somehow it was okay? I had bought into the fantasy. That porn was good, healthy, okay, and that it was just acting. But my senses told me a different story. I don't know what my point here is. I certainly don't deserve a medal for seeing through the shit. I guess I just wanted to say that I'm happy that you've gotten out of porn. It means a lot for those of us who have struggled with porn addiction to see former performers speaking out. It helps to curb that voice in me that says it's okay. I know this probably means nothing, and yeah you should probably see me as a creep... but I feel like I saw something beautiful in you beyond just seeing you as an object. I think a lot of guys just do it because we're lonely, and we do care about and respect women. But when we wake up and see that it's not just a fantasy, it's real and the pain is real, well we just can't accept that anymore and claim to care about and respect women. I hope this isn't unwelcome, if it is please delete it. Wish you the best in everything! Really happy for you and your courage!

I have to say I like your cause and website. I'm thinking about donating money. I wish something like this had been around 25 or 30, or even 35 years ago. Porn definitely was a bad influence on me when I was much younger. Fortunately I stopped using it 9 or 10 years ago in my late 30's. I basically got to a point where I had to ask myself what porn was adding to my life. The answer was nothing good. I personally don't see porn as a "disease", but more as a symptom. Porn is the outward manifestation. If you had a headache and the cause of the headache was a brain tumor, taking asprin won't help cure the tumor. I like that you aren't about banning porn because I don't think it can be banned successfully, mostly because banning doesn't address the demand issue. I think what needs to be address is the demand portion of it. I do believe, based on my personal experience, that it can be addictive, and the reasons for that addiction are different from person to person. There is no one cause for it. I think education, outreach and treatment are the keys. I think over time the demand can be reduced.

If I have one criticism of your website, it's that it's pretty overwhelming in terms of information overload, especially the left side of the screen and how far you have to scroll down. Outside of that I am exceedingly impressed with you people and look forward to supporting you in the very near future. Thank you for all that you do and I really wish there had been an organization like this when I was much younger. It really could have made a difference.
Gabriele on September 23, 2016 at 5:29 PM said:

Hello Jessica! First of all, thank you for your videos and words because I believe that you are truly making a difference. Every one in this world can make a difference and sometimes this comes from personal negative experiences and events in life. What you are about to read might appear as with little to no connection to the subject, but there is a logical path in my comment.

I have Asperger Syndrome with comorbidity with some issues like depression, mood swings, sleeping issues and difficulties in social interactions. My experience in life has been AWFUL in many circumstances! But thanks to my condition, I have developed a knowledge in psychology that not even a professional could ever have because it comes from first person experience. Thus, I can truly understand those who have the same problems I have and easily relate to people with emotional and mental disorders. I believe that my life up to this point can be considered a training so that I could prepare myself to help others in a very effective way.

Now your negative experience with porn and, for sure, all the other terrible things that might have happened before, have certainly tested you and changed you along the way. You probably are one individual who can truly and genuinely relate to those who have struggled in their lives with terrible things like pornography. Other former porn actresses can look at you to find a way out of that disgusting world and because of your experience you can help them heal their wounds because you had to heal yourself as well. Just like I can understand what a person with Asperger Syndrome feels, you can understand what people who have been involved in pornography feel. You can make a difference!

If I had one wish that can be granted with a magic wand, I tell you that I would ask to see all the girls involved in pornography being able to leave that world and be happy, loved and cared for. They are souls with emotions and dreams, they deserve to find a way out of the dark pit of sexual exploitation.

I am sincerely happy to know that at least one of them (and I'm sure others will follow up soon) has been able to escape. In other words, I'm joyful because of the fact that you are leading a completely new life, you totally deserve it!

You can do so much good to a countless number of people!

Good luck and God bless you and protect you Jessica!

Just saw an add on craigslist in a city near me looking for young women to introduce to porn, as if it's a way to make fast easy cash, which I see as prostitution but hey, it doesn't bother the site it seems. I was married once, my ex got totally brainwashed reading those sex novels, she felt as if having sex with multiple partners was normal acceptable behavior, was doing the webcam stuff behind my back, years later I still have trust issues. I wish there was some way to get young women to know and understand that no amount of money you can make selling your body will make it worth while, when beauty fades, and youth is gone, they'll throw you in the gutter, and that is if you are fortunate enough to last that long, as the drugs used to deal with the self loathing is hard on the body.

I've been addicted to porngraphy in one form or another since I was 13. I am now 38. I've known it to be a serious problem in my life for the last year at least. It has completely stunted my emotional growth as a human being. I honestly have everything going for me. I'm intelligent, reasonably good looking and generally a kind caring person. But, instead of cultivating a real caring relationship with a woman I've devoted my time to stareing at a screen. My taste in porn has degenerated over the years to more violent, abusive, and degrading forms. Jessica Mendes was one of my favorite performers. After seeing her tell her story and seeing the pic here of her as child, I cried. I felt disgusting and guilty and completly ashamed of myself. I should state in the present tense beacuse i feel that way now. I hope that she will see this and know how much I respect her. My porn addiction is something I've shared with no one. She has the courage to openly talk about it. And she's a performer. She has to live with this for the rest of her life, being forever on the internet. I've been trying to get help this last year. The longest I have made it without pmo is 23 days, and I never felt better. But, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It didn't last. The main reason I'm posting here, again, is to thank Jessica for her candor and openness and let her know that she is making a difference. At least in my life. I'm starting over here and now. No. More. Pmo. I know it won't be easy but I will return to this site and think of Jessica as I battle this. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality

DESCRIPTION

Pornland: How Porn Has Hijacked Our Sexuality takes an unflinching look at today’s porn industry: the stories woven into the images, the impact on our culture, the effects on us as men and women, the business machine that creates and markets porn, and the growing legitimacy of porn in mainstream media. Above all, PORNLAND examines the way porn shapes and limits sexual imaginations and behaviors.

Although we are surrounded by pornographic images, many people are not aware of just how cruel and violent the industry is today. PORNLAND shows how today’s porn is strikingly different from yesterday’s Playboy and Penthouse magazines — how competition in the industry and consumer desensitization have pushed porn toward hard core extremes. And, with the advent of the internet and other digital technologies, users don’t have to wander far to access porn; todaythe average age of first viewing is about 11 for boys, and studies reveal that young men, who consume more porn than ever before, have difficulty forming healthy relationships.

PORNLAND also looks at how our porn culture affects the way women and girls think about their bodies, their sexuality and their relationships. PORNLAND: How Porn has Hijacked our Sexuality argues that rather than sexually liberating or empowering us, porn offers us a plasticized, formulaic, generic version of sex that is boring, lacking in creativity and disconnected from emotion and intimacy.

Shared Hope International specifically focuses on fighting the demand for commercial sexual exploitaiton, including addressing pornography as a very significant demand factor for sex trafficking.

Please see their excellent report on this issue:

Pornography: Creating Demand for International Sex Trafficking

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Pornography is a marketing device for sex trafficking: It normalizes degradation and violence as acceptable and even inevitable parts of sex, and uses the bodies of real women and children as objects. The difference between pornography and erotica is clear in the roots of the words themselves -- porne means females slaves, eros means love -- so pornography, like rape, is about violence and domination, not sex. Millions of lives depend on our ability to separate pornography from erotica, and to disentangle violence from sexuality."
Gloria Steinem, 2006
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. PLEASE DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO.
Please remember that it is not up to AntiPornography.org, the other organizations listed on this page, the government, or "someone else" to do the entire job of fighting against the devastating harms of pornography, prostitution, trafficking, and other forms of sexual exploitation or abuse. It is an enormous job and the responsibility lies with each and every one of us to do our part as part of the bigger team of those who are choosing to be part of the solution of creating a more just and humane world for everyone, rather than be part of the problem.
So thank you in advance for whatever you are able to contribute to the cause, whether in the form of a tax-deductible donation or your actions. What you do does matter, so for the sake of all those across the world who are being exploited and abused, and for the sake of the future of humanity, please do what you can to create a more compassionate and safer society for all.
Thank you for whatever you are able to give or do to help create a better world for everyone, especially for women, children and future generations.
 YOUR SUPPORTIVE ACTIONS & YOUR DONATIONS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
THEY CAN AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
